On October 21st 2015 Assoc. Prof. Dr. Sc. Zvjezdana Findrik and her team from the University of Zagreb (UZAG) atended to the “Sajam ideja” or Fair of Ideas. The event was organized by the Croatian Chamber of Economy and the Faculty of Chemical Engineering and Technology of the University of Zagreb

The intent of the Fair of Ideas event is to connect the scientific community with the economy through:

  • Connecting industry with the up-to-date research of the faculty of engineering
  • Solving industrial problems through coperational projects
  • Undertaking joint projects financed from EU funds
  • Adding value: Creating new products, processes...
  • Improving student access in the labor market through internships and thesis work in the industry

During the event Prof. Zvjezdana Findrik and her team presented a poster about the CARBAZYMES project to important stakeholders of the industry and academia

Professor W.D. Fessner, the Carbazymes coordinator from the Technische Universität Darmstadt and Dr Rainer Wardenga from the Small-Medium Enterprise (SME) Enzymicals participated in the 2015 EC-Workshop: “Maximising the Impact of KET Biotechnology” which took place on the 22nd September, in Brussels. They were invited to present the Carbazymes project and its ambition, as part of the H2020 projects in KET Biotechnology.

The international project CARBAZYMES “Sustainable industrial processes based on a C-C bond-forming enzyme platform” started in April 2015 and involves the participation of 14 enterprises and research centers from 5 different countries under the coordination of Professor Fessner from the Technische Universität Darmstadt.

A total amount of € 9,251,355 will be invested in the Carbazymes project, of which € 8,202,966 are funded by the European Commission Horizon 2020 Programme under GA 635595.

During its course, the CARBAZYMES project will develop the biocatalytic synthesis of 4 APIs and 3 bulk chemicals as representatives of market needs using a broad platform of 4 types of unique C-C bond forming enzymes.

The project´s kick-off meeting took place on 23 April 2015 in Brussels. Representatives from the 14 beneficiaries of the consortium met with the project officer in order to get Carbazymes off to a good start.
