University of Zagreb is the leading research and educational institute of Croatia. The Faculty of Chemical Engineering and Technology (UZAG) is one of its constituent units organized into several departments with teaching, research, professional and advisory activities in chemical engineering, chemistry etc. The faculty ensures the dissemination of important scientific and professional achievements, as well as cooperation with other scientific, professional and educational institutes in Croatia and abroad.

Role in the project

The Group of biocatalysis at the Faculty of Chemical Engineering and Technology is highly experienced in four areas of applied biocatalysis: isolated enzymes and whole cells as biocatalysts, fermentation technology and microreactor technology. The methodology of chemical engineering, i.e.the mathematical modelling and optimization are applied to the biocatalytic processes.

UZAG will undertake different tasks in WP2 Reaction optimization, WP4 Bioprocess development and WP5 Scale-up and demonstration, such as screening of the biotransformations for optimal process conditions, enzyme immobilization, mathematical modeling of reaction kinetics and reactor, reaction conditions optimization and scale-up of the most promising processes.
